Climate Action Summit 2026

Across the world, people are already taking action in their own communities. But these local solutions often lack the support and financing needed to grow. Today, only a small share of global climate funding reaches the local level.

The Climate Action Summit, hosted by the IFRC and the Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre, is a one-day global online summit bringing together international leaders and community voices to move beyond discussion and focus on action.

Our session

HIFHUB is co-hosting the session Reimagining finance for locally led action (16.00–17.15 CEST). As climate-related crises grow in scale and complexity, locally led organisations are being challenged to find new ways to finance resilience, adaptation and long-term risk reduction. This session will explore the changing humanitarian and development funding landscape, examining how innovative financing approaches—including philanthropy, impact investment, insurance and blended finance—can complement traditional grant funding. Together, we will unpack what these financing mechanisms are, how they work, and what opportunities they may offer local and community-based organisations seeking to access new resources while advancing locally defined priorities and sustainable impact.

During this session, HIFHUB is co-facilitating a break-out session on insurance, featuring a panel discussion centred on the Malawi Flood Insurance.
