By becoming a strategic partner, the Swedish Red Cross joins an esteemed group of sponsors, including the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the Kenya Red Cross, and the Danish Red Cross.
Hosted by the Danish Red Cross, HIFHUB serves as a platform for the entire International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement to explore and apply new financing models – such as blended finance, insurance mechanisms, and endowment funds – aimed at enhancing the effectiveness and sustainability of humanitarian response.
The collaboration builds on a foundation of joint initiatives, including a comprehensive report published last year that provided guidance to National Societies on understanding and applying humanitarian innovative finance. With the Swedish Red Cross now actively participating in funding and guiding HIFHUB’s efforts, the partnership aims to explore new financing avenues while maintaining a strong focus on meeting needs on the ground.
This strategic alliance underscores the growing recognition of the importance of innovative financing in the humanitarian sector. Traditional funding sources are increasingly insufficient to meet the escalating demands of global crises. By leveraging new financial models and fostering cross-sector partnerships, HIFHUB and its sponsors are working to ensure more predictable, efficient, and accountable resource mobilisation and utilisation.
